Ocular Oncology Services (Eye cancer and Eye Tumors)
Ocular oncology service provides comprehensive, evidence-based and protocol guided management of tumors of eyelid, conjunctiva, intraocular structures and orbit. Eyelid Tumors
It may be non-cancerous or cancerous and includes various types. Early diagnosis is the key word in these tumors, preventing the spread to other sites. Treatment involves complete excision under frozen section control to ensure complete removal without any residual, reducing the chance of recurrence. Advanced cases are treated with chemotherapy to reduce the tumor size and complete removal.

Ocular Surface Tumors
Tumors effecting the conjunctiva and cornea (white portion of the eye) can occur due to sun exposure, reduced immunity, long-standing inflammation and rarely due to unknown cause. They include cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. Delaying the treatment can lead to tumor affecting the other parts of the eye. There are newer treatments where the tumor is treated with eye drops, in particular situation. Surgically we aim at complete removal of the tumor with digital image map technique and cryotherapy, which cures the disease completely. Vision restoration, preservation and avoiding recurrence of the tumor are the aim of treatment.

Orbital Tumors
It comprises of a spectrum of tumors ranging from benign tumors to aggressive cancers. Rarely, tumor from other parts of the body can spread to the orbit.
In children, mostly they are non- cancerous but infrequently cancer can occur in the orbit of children that deserves timely attention with surgery and occasionally chemotherapy and or radiation treatment. In most cases a multidisciplinary approach is adopted with minimal access orbital surgical approach, chemotherapy and radiation.

Intraocular tumors
It can occur in both adults and children. In adults they include, uveal melanoma, choroidal and vitreo-retinal lymphoma, metastatic tumors and other vascular tumors. In children, the most common is retinoblastoma. Most of the tumors are successfully treated with photodyanamic therapy, transpupillary thermotherapy, cryotherapy, intravitreal chemotherapy, systemic chemotherapy and localized radiation.
